Transportation

Getting to and from work is a critical part of the job search process. There are multiple options around the state to support working individuals. Visit your local SC Works center for transportation options and assistance or click the links below to find transportation in your area.​

Lowcountry Go
Connects people with solutions and supports carpools, vanpools, public transit, walking, biking and emergency rides home for individuals in the Trident region.

SCIWay
South Carolina Information Highway is a comprehensive directory of South Carolina information on the internet, including a list of statewide transportation options.

Need-A-Lift
For families on the go, Need-A-Lift provides safe, reliable and trusted transportation in South Carolina’s Midlands region and surrounding areas. They also serve schools, government agencies, non-profits, other places of employment and more.

2-1-1
Offers transportation options by type and then users can sort by zip code, best match or alphabetically.

Transportation Network Companies
Transportation network companies (TNCs) like Uber and Lyft match drivers with passengers who request rides through smartphone applications. Lyft, in certain regions, allows you to view nearby bus schedules in the app or schedule rides up to 7 days in advance.

Waze Carpool
A carpooling smartphone application in which a driver can be paired with a rider going in a similar direction, allowing people to save time and money. Other carpools can be found through informal means, such as talking with friends, family and colleagues.

Enterprise Rideshare
Offers vanpool commuting options, ideal for groups of people traveling to work, in which commuters will split the driving plus the cost of maintenance, insurance and fuel.

AARP Ride@50+ 
Your one-stop-shop for booking transportation easily and affordably in Richland and Lexington counties using the AARP Ride@50+ Program powered by Feonix-Mobility Rising. Open to all ages, AARP membership not required.Low cost volunteer drivers available through this program.

Transportation Planning Aid 
This aid will assist with the analysis of an individual’s access to transportation, while also increasing awareness of additional transportation options.

Consistent and reliable childcare is in integral part of job success. Visit your local SC Works center or click the links below to find a service or assistance to help you ensure your family is taken care of while you are at work.

First Five South Carolina
Connecting families with South Carolina's public services for young children such as child care, early education and food assistance. Check your eligibility for over 40 services.

SC Voucher
Offered through the S.C. Department of Social Services, the SC Voucher makes payments to child care providers to care for children from low-income families so their parents can work.

 

Workplace Accommodations

If you have a disability and need accommodations in the workplace or services and programs to help with the job search process, contact your local SC Works center to discuss solutions or explore the programs of the organization listed below for more information and assistance.

S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation
Vocational Rehabilitation prepares and assists eligible South Carolinians with disabilities to achieve and maintain competitive employment.

S.C. Commission for the Blind
The S.C. Commission for the Blind helps blind and visually impaired residents of our state gain independence and take advantage of opportunities for financial advancement.

Able SC
Able South Carolina (Able SC) is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) – a consumer-controlled, community-based, cross-disability nonprofit that provides an array of independent living services to people of all ages with all types of disabilities.

Additional Resources

2-1-1
A service connecting of people to help in their local community, including supportive services such as housing, food and clothing. To get help, you can click the link to search for a local resource or simply call 2-1-1.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
People who are working and need help to stretch their income to purchase food may also be eligible for SNAP benefits as well as those receiving Social Security benefits, child support or unemployment.

Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
Low-income families, may be eligible for these services, and families enrolled in the program are offered employment training and placement, childcare and transportation while in employment training, and a monthly stipend all designed to help parents get back to work and maintain sufficiency.
